A free consultation starts a heart touching experience with an attorney that is totally beyond my imagination. Eric was not only attentive to my story during our conversations but also worked overtime to answer my questions to ease my worries during the weekend. I did not ask for this favor but he did it voluntarily as if we were dear old friends. Eric wrote a very long email to exhaustively specify the imbeded pros and cons of my original proposal, especially analyzing the potential default risk and how to prevent it. Eric is standing in my shoes to foresee the outcomes to protect me. His compassion sets him apart from those profit-oriented attorney folks. Before I talked to Eric, I did a cost benefit analysis on how to dispose of a house: sale vs. trust. I focused on the step-up cost basis of capital gain tax, property tax, gift tax, and mortgages payments, etc. Eric’s professionalism pointed out immediately that there is a Proposition 19 exclusion cap on property tax which I should re-run my calculation. Wow! I never know there is a cap, which might undermine my analysis. I appreciate Eric's thorough knowledge of how taxes impact estate planning which I believe many attorneys might be missing some pieces of the tax complexity as well as those on-line trust & will platforms which definitely fall short of dealing with it. When I reserved a free consultation, Eric generously sent me his electronic links of four booklets and one book on trust themes, but it was too much for me to absorb before the meeting. I raised many questions during our conversion, but Eric was very patient and quick in condensing complicated issues into essential topics so that I could easily catch up. He even diagramed those essences for me to follow up the priority steps to make the estate plan feasible. Furthermore, in order to make me understand different issues crystally clear, Eric answered my questions one by one, specified which parts I have the correct concepts, and which parts I mixed different concepts up with common mistakes.
